The cafe and coffee culture is huge in Viet Nam. Going out for a coffee or tea is part of many people’s (including my own) daily routine.
Out of the many hundreds of cafes in Huế, Cafe Muối is my hands-down favorite. It is one the best places to hang out and relax in the entire city. Though there are several different drink options, the most unique and greatest is the cafe muối, (salted coffee-same name as the shop). This mouth-watering beverage is comprised of 4 different ingredients, delightfully layered on top of each other: A bit of salt, sweetened condensed milk, coffee and some frothed milk at the top. Add ice if you like! You get both a caffeine and a sweet tooth fix for only 15,000 VND (about 0.75 USD).
The ambience at the cafe is very peaceful and romantic. Dimly lit inside seating, purple walls, a lovely outside patio, and 90’s ballads serenading the customers creates a very calming atmosphere. How could you feel anything but loved when sipping coffee to Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak my Heart?”
Only downside is that the cafe closes form 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., so no there’s chance to go for an afternoon wake-up during lunch.
The cafe is hidden on a side street, and many locals don’t even know about it!
All guests of mine have and will visit this cafe. Cafe Muối is the only place you can get the scrumptious cafe muối, so you’ll just have to visit to experience it!
There is even a cute story to go along with the drink, you can read it on their facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/notes/cafe-muối/the-salty-coffee-a-love-story/133994250002065
