Originally from Los Angeles, Ellison is a California native with a passion for developing cross-cultural and experiential learning opportunities for students from diverse walks of life. Previously, he spent several years studying and working in Japan —initially as an exchange student in Ibaraki and then later as a participant on the JET Program. After returning from Japan, he completed graduate studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and then went on to coordinate study abroad programs in East Africa and Latin America. In addition to his background in international education, Ellison worked for three years in social services where he assisted low-income families in accessing a variety of healthcare and medical services. He is excited to help students expand their knowledge of global medicine through innovative and provocative VIA medical programs. An avid traveler, he has explored more than 14 countries and enjoys hiking, listening to music, and studying foreign languages.
