As a VIA volunteer from 1987 to 1989, Deborah Crane taught English as a Second Language to teachers and students at the East China Metallurgy Institute in Ma-Anshan, Anhui, PRC. Deb holds a BA from Stanford University in International Relations and a Masters in Public Policy with a focus on International Development from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She retired from the US Department of the Treasury in 2024, after serving for 27 years as an international economist and manager in Treasury’s International Affairs division. At the Treasury, she supported bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation, with a focus on low-income developing countries in Asia and Africa, and on the role of the United States in shaping policies at the international financial institutions, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the African Development Bank. Deb joined the VIA Board in 2025.
