My journey with VIA began more than 20 years ago through the Asia-US Service Learning (AUSL) Program, when I was a pharmacy student wondering how science could truly serve people. Through VIA’s service learning, I discovered the meaning of empathy, collaboration, and leadership rooted in community engagement. That experience inspired me to study medicine and dedicate my life to advancing healthcare systems that serve people’s real needs.
 
Today, twenty years after the AUSL program, I work both as a hospital administrator and family physician in Japan, applying the lessons of VIA every day—to listen, to learn, and to serve. My professional journey now extends beyond Japan: I have been delivering lectures to healthcare professionals in Vietnam, continuing to share the values of compassion and service in global healthcare settings.
 
Through my involvement in the Japan Society of Healthcare Administration and the Japan Primary Care Association, I strive to promote safer, more inclusive, and more sustainable healthcare systems. The VIA spirit continues to guide my work, bridging cultures and inspiring action for a healthier world. I currently work at Honda Hospital and welcome anyone to join the Community Hospital Project!

I currently serve as a hands-on consultant for hospitals and elderly care centers, which face critical challenges in Japan’s rapidly aging society. With a deep appreciation for VIA’s experiential learning approach and recognizing potential synergies with my current work, I co-designed the Community Hospital Project with VIA focusing on community-based medical care in Japan. Through this project, participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with Honda Hospital in Tokyo and engage in a design-thinking initiative. I am incredibly excited to continue my VIA journey as a social impact leader, and I warmly welcome anyone interested in joining us on this meaningful project!
