My ultimate goal in life is to connect. I want to connect the dots looking backwards. With those dots, I want to draw lines between the young and the old, the poor and the rich, and connecting people with different beliefs.
The reason to join GLE program is that I believe it’s a way to fulfill my dream. As Taiwanese students, we are always searching for our identities. I want to let more people know about us and understand us; I want to bring Taiwan to the world and the world to Taiwan, building more connections to bond the world together.
Taking part in all the international exchanges, I experienced a different world opening up to me; excited by the opportunities connecting people, I interacted and communicated with diversified viewpoints. The single best takeaway from GLE is to meet all the amazing people, especially my roommate, Takafumi. Everyday we learned and collided our beliefs together. GLE Program is a program about leadership, and leadership to me is something that I will definitely pursue and learn for my entire life. And because of him, I became a better person indeed. He once said, “I still, of course clearly remember the talks we had at night, and the debates that reconnected our souls and not our minds.” Yes, it’s a memory that you will recall and cherish for your entire life.
Immersed in a massive city with vibrantly diversified cultures such as San Francisco, I was excited and exhausted at the same time everyday. There’s too much to learn and too much to explore in San Francisco.
With these experiences, I discovered that I had strong commitment in building connections in different aspects. And it taught me that we can build a better world with better understanding of each other. For me, building connections is a self-discovering journey, an outward-exploring journey, and even more, a mutual-communicating journey. To fulfill my ultimate goal, I will learn, absorb and observe, be open minded to get ready for taking in different ideas and try to bring the best out of me in order to showcase where I am from and be proud of that.
